We all want so many things in life and have different goals like losing weight, getting a decent job, clearing a particular exam, mastering a specific skill, writing a book, having a good relationship with spouse and family, starting a business etc. Many people reach their respective goals but a majority of people can't get that. There is one fundamental reason for not getting the desired goal and that is the extra focusing on goals instead of the system by following which that goal can be reached.
If we notice it carefully then we will understand that how this is absolutely true. Let's give you my own example. When I was in higher secondary school I used to concentrate only on homework, class tests and daily small targets. As a result, I scored very good marks in my higher secondary board exam and topped the school and also ranked 1 as an Urdu medium student in all over the West Bengal. It was such a surprise for me because I didn't think about being the topper during the preparation period, I just enjoyed and followed an ideal system of the study process, that's it. If I had concentrated on to be the rank 1 as an Urdu medium student in the state then I think I couldn't do that because the pressure of that kind of big goal always remains high and that drags the concentration from the actual system and I don't think I could carry the burden of that big goal.
This rule is applicable in every aspect of life. For example, a person wants to lose weight and he targets a goal to lose 10 kg of weight in a month and he starts exercising and having healthy diet but if he only concentrates on the goal then he will tend to get that goal as soon as possible and for that he will check his weight 3 or 5 times a day(just saying). And if he doesn't see much change in his body he will get demotivated and after few days he will just give up. But if he just sticks to the process of losing weight without thinking about the result then he will get success for sure.`
The three major reasons why one should focus on system rather than goals
So concentrate on a daily schedule, remain sticked with it and enjoy the system and the present moment, you will just get what you want.
2. Goals are not enough for long progress.
The system always wins over the goal. Suppose, I make a goal to do 50 sit ups daily but during the session I felt hamstring and was not able to do 50 sit ups. At that time if I give much more importance to the goal then I consider myself a failure and will get demotivated but if I am system concious then I'll understand the situation and remain happy with my workout and understand that for a long run that target is not necessary and if the body permits then I can do many sit ups in future. System based mindset is not targetting to hit a number but sticking to the workout.
The goal can make you demotivated sometimes but if you are a system concious person then it will help you in long run and will always keep motivating you.
3. Goal shows your control over different things which you don't have control over
We set lots of goals. We think about the perks after achieving our goals. We set time after which we will reach our goals and so on though we don't know the basic process of the system through which we have to pass to reach that. We don't consider the struggle, sacrifices, consistency and perseverance, the matter of concern for us. We only think about the things we don't have control over and don't concentrate on the system. This results in distraction of our mind from the actual process and we get failed most of the time.
Conclusion
Just be in love with the system rather than goals. I am not saying that setting a goal is bad but only setting a goal and not giving importance or not understanding the system of that goal is someting which we have to avoid. Just STICK TO THE SYSTEM AND YOU WILL GET WHATEVER GOAL YOU WANT.
